Physical Education:

As a kayaking high school, AHE offers a rigorous physical component which will satisfy the physical education requirements of both public and private high schools across the country. The focus is on proper paddling techniques, play boating skills, along with stretching and strengthening techniques.

SAT Preparation:

This course familiarizes students with the SAT format. The focus is on vocabulary acquisition, written response techniques and proper time management during testing. In addition to the text, students will complete practice exams during a simulated testing session.

Speech:

This course is designed to improve self confidence and communication in a variety of speaking situations. Students will concentrate on organization, presentation, discussion, and listening. Students will present a variety of speeches including descriptive speech, narrative speech, expository speech, and persuasive speech.

Photography:

This course introduces photographic equipment, materials, and processes from the perspective of the photographer and photo journalist. Concepts include: composition, perspective, shapes and lines, depth of field, motion, pattern, lighting, texture, contrast, and framing.

Video Production:

This course introduces video equipment, materials, and processes. Concepts include: camera controls, shot composition, lighting, audio, in-camera editing, basic editing (special effects, titles), production planning, producing, and post-production. Students will create a DVD documenting their experiences at the school.

VIDEO MEDIA I:

In Video Media I you will learn to edit using Final Cut Pro. You will actually script, direct, shoot and edit clips throughout the year as you compose a DVD. Your parents will enjoy watching your projects online as you post them. View some of this years videos to see what you can learn.

PHOTO MEDIA I:

In Photo Media I you will take shots as you travel the globe. As you develop an eye for what makes great photos you will learn to blog. Your parents will be excited to view your work online. Don’t be surprised if you learn to trade your photos for a new paddle or other kayak gear. Watch the slides and learn more.
