Athletics Kayaking and Adventure
Do you want to kayak whether it is park and play, river running, or gaining confidence on the beautiful Rio Futaleafu. Although, because where you live and cold winter months you simply can not. If yes, then read each Athletics section.
When you apply you choose to become serious about whitewater kayaking, adventure travel, and athletics. Daily, after school you will master aerial freestyle moves, run a section of river, or work on mastering waterfall skills. Each week you will take time off the river to experience the culture with one of your alternative to kayaking activities.
How will I be coached?
You will meet individually with your coach to discuss your personal goals, how you prefer to be coached, and what aspect of kayaking you most want to improve. This positive personal attention allows the coach to hear your interests and adjust to your needs.
Am I good enough?
You will be taught on a progression system that is motivating to master the early skills in order to progress to the next skill. If you are gaining confidence running rivers and want to learn the basics then you are perfect. The individual attention you will get from coaches will build your confidence at an easy pace. If you are passionate about adventure and kayaking then you are good enough to apply.
I want to learn safety.
You will begin your semester participating in a safety course. The safety protocol you learn will be practiced and modeled each day you are on the river. When you begin to apply these safety lessons you are actually developing into a leader.
Leadership and related jobs.
You will learn safety skills, how to teach freestyle and river running, media skills, and how to be a leader. As a leader of New River Academy companies will recognize you a desirable employee. Each semester companies contact New River Academy seeking employees.
