    The Clean Blunt with IKE

    Thursday, April 30th, 2009

    Clean blunt
    1. Set up on the wave with forward speed
    2. As you start to speed down the wave load up on your knee just like you would do for a regular blunt.
    3. Instead of switching your paddle to the other side of your boat like you would do for a blunt, punch it into the air, the opposite way you are throwing the boat

4.Once in the air twork your hips the same way you are throwing the boat, so it will land straight
    5. Remember to be staying forward in your boat the whole time and throw you heels down in the water
    6. Last step is to look at everyone on shore like “whatsup?”

    Checking Lines at Hukah Falls

    Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Recently, the New River Academy visited New Zealand’s Hukah Falls. Hukah Falls is a gigantic waterfall on the Waikato River. Before it was damned, the Waikato used to be the  biggest river in Austral Asia. Hukah falls is around 25 feet tall with clear turquoise water and massive volume all flowing out of a very narrow canyon gorge. It has been a sacred place to the Maori people for a long time. When I first saw it I was amazed at how gorgeous it was. The water was amazingly blue and clear and looked so refreshing. The water was too high to run in a kayak that day but it was still fun to try and pick out which line you would take if you were to run it. The place was probably one of the most beautiful places I have been to and it is just an example of the beauties of New Zealand and the Earth.

    Fun at our Kiwi Base

    Trampoline Time!

We have only been at the holiday park for about a week, but to me it seems like two. The place is really nice, we have shelter 5 minutes away from the river, hot showers, a  nice kitchen and very good classroom spots. My favorite about the place is the supper fun, super safe no spring trampoline! It provides good exersize and lots of fun, it has no springs or metal bars around it and it has a net so you don’t fall off, I feel a lot safer now trying new moves!
