The Clean Blunt with IKE

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Clean blunt
1. Set up on the wave with forward speed
2. As you start to speed down the wave load up on your knee just like you would do for a regular blunt.
3. Instead of switching your paddle to the other side of your boat like you would do for a blunt, punch it into the air, the opposite way you are throwing the boat

4.Once in the air twork your hips the same way you are throwing the boat, so it will land straight
5. Remember to be staying forward in your boat the whole time and throw you heels down in the water
6. Last step is to look at everyone on shore like “whatsup?”

The Clean Blunt (Instructional)

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Hey Everyone!

I am here with a quik instructional on how to Clean Blunt. For those of you who have mastered the blunt and are looking for another move to work on, you are at the right place. Also, lucky for us, I was told the clean blunt is easier than the blunt once learned. I agree with that Statement.

Clean Blunt: A blunt done without ever touching your paddle throughout the entire trick.

Here is the step by step progression

1: You need to set up high on the wave, people do this in many ways. I like to carve side to side and slow myself down there fore you rise to the top of the wave.

2: As you feel yourself begin to fall down the wave again edge your boat as if you are going to do a normal blunt. The key here is to make sure you are holding your paddle up out of the water. Some people even hold it over their heads.

3: When you feel you bow start to rise off the water you have to throw your body forward and upstream. This Crunching and  Momentum will be what begins to rotate your boat.(you still need to have your hands in the air! Keep that paddle up off the water) A small thing that will help is to crunch the muscles on the side that will be most upstream, or in other words the side that you edged on in the first place. Also throw your paddle and your hands upstream, this will keep them off the water and keep your trick clean!

4: For the rest of the move you want to still be focused on keeping your body crunched forward for the landing. Keeping crunched will keep your stern from pearling when you land.

Good Luck!!!

The Start of Something Huge…

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Hey Everyone!

New River Academy is full of young rippers who are always going HUGE. But a lot of the time the footage of the huge moves doesn’t make it to your eyes. I’ve had an idea for a while to solve this problem for a while and now I am finally putting it into action. Every Day I will be posting up a clip of the biggest move thrown that day in Raw Un Editted form, just the way we saw it. We have had Suprise for the past two days in a row so we have a few extra tricks as the kick off to this new idea.

The First is a PAn Am from yours Truly. The funny thing about it was that it stalled out half way through. Let me know what you think. The Resolution isn’t the best but we’ll be fixing that soon!

Hi, my name is Keegan Grady. I am attending New River Academy with the support of Lunch Video Magazine and their LVM Video Scholarship.  I am stoked to return to Canada and my home river, the Ottawa, this weekend for the Level Six Capital Cup in Ottawa, Ontario. It’s a great competition that I have attended every year for the past five years, it’s a fun little feature where almost every trick can be thrown. For more info on the feature google, cityofottawawhitewater.

Here is a link to a short video on fourth quarter in the south eastern United States. Enjoy!
