NOC Summer School Photography Credit

What? You mean I can earn high school credit while going to kayak camp? That is right. In 2008 the Nantahala Outdoor Center and New River Academy developed a youth kayak program and offered a semester high school credit for learning photography. Following New River Academy’s photography curriculum teens can now master photo media skills and return home with a remarkable portfolio and newfound life passion.

In the mornings you will learn photography and media skills. Later, you will venture to the river as you kayak and actually get hands-on experience making exciting compositions. Now, your photo shoots are as fun as your kayaking. And parents love the photo camp even more than the kids. Parents will be checking out your blog to see your latest shots and what you are doing on the river.

How does the summer school credit work?

New River Academy is mandated by accreditation standards to meet required course hours. So, you have to be in class learning about camera functions, technique, blogging and media. And the cool thing is that shooting on the river counts as class hours. The New River Academy will transfer a ½ or semester credit to your local high school.
