In 2008 the Nantahala Outdoor Center took out all stops and hired Emily and Nick Troutman as their youth freestyle instructors. Later, that summer the newlyweds would become the first kayak couple to win the world championships.

If you are in the southeast and want to learn freestyle then you have to train on the Ocoee River. You can spend a week mastering and developing your freestyle tricks from great instructors at NOC’s base camp. Again, a great play river combined with great instructors equals the best kayak camp experience.

Teens Week Goes to the Ocoee for High-Flying Fun!

Join world famous boaters Emily Jackson and Nick Troutman for a week of playboating fun and Instruction! Campers will develop kayaking and playboating skills with this dynamic duo and build skills throughout the week, ending with two days of thowing down on the Ocoee's fun features.

One-Time Course: July 5-10, 2009

Our teens playboating camp is designed with FUN weaved into every topic we'll cover, including: gear and safety familiarization, basic playboating techniques on the lake and on the river. Our #1 goal is to make teens feel comfortable with playboating kayak skills throughout the week. The group will paddle harder rivers as the week progresses and as the teens' skills and confidence improves.

Teens playboating week is led by World Cup Champion Emily Jackson and her new husband Nick Troutman, who is also a world class paddler and videographer. Both have years of involvement with teens paddling and playboating instruction.
