The notion of traveling with your kayak to the world's best whitewater destinations and getting an all expenses paid trip is quite glorious. Yes, paddling all of those rivers and experiencing the culture is what we love. But are you a teacher who cares first? Are you capable of being a role model, living with students 24 hours a day, and traveling for long periods of time? Lets not kid ourselves the job is tough. For those who are passionate to teach and enjoy the rewards of working with youth this is a rewarding opportunity.
During an interview math instructor Andy Kirby was asked, "What do you think is the most important aspect of teaching?" His response was simple, "You have to care." If you are considering applying for New River Academy please evaluate why you want to teach.

Do You Need a Teaching Certificate?
No, New River Academy is a college preparatory secondary private school. Meaning employees do not have to hold a teaching certificate. Although, we do seek to hire experienced educators. Some of our teachers are not certified educators but meet a minimum number of collegiate hours within their teaching discipline. If you do not have a certificate in education you will have to contact our office to see if you qualify.
New River Academy Positions
Each semester New River Academy hires educators in the disciplines of natural sciences, history, Spanish, English, and mathematics. This team of five will lead and teach a high school of adventure seeking kayakers embarking on expeditions often taking them to multiple continents. The job is rewarding, high energy, and full of accomplishments. Employees are more than just educators as they serve as: mentors, public relations, manage cooking duties, arrange international logistics, publish blogs, communicate with parents, attend whitewater festivals, and become role models.
Internships
New River Academy offers valuable experience via our internship program. Interns receive employee benefits without financial compensation. Interns interested in international travel to kayak destinations, earning valuable teaching and leadership experience, and the opportunity to get their foot in the door for future employment should they submit an application, resume, and cover letter.
We think the number one benefit why employees choose New River Academy is to travel, kayak, and teach. While, all of our employees come for these reasons not all realize how rewarding their Huge Experiences’ will be.
New River Academy employees are paid on varying scales depending on experience level and duties performed. Employees are compensated with a travel stipend, international food and lodging expenses, and airfares to international destinations are also covered.
Many companies within the whitewater industry offer our employees pro-deal purchasing.
